Unfortunately it is almost impossible to talk about colloidal silver these days without somebody popping up and saying that all it does is turn you blue (a condition called argyria). So if you don’t mind Steve I’ll answer that one before somebody else raises it.
Argyria is caused by relatively large particles of silver getting trapped under the skin, then reacting with sunlight to turn blue or grey. Most modern colloidal silvers use nano particles which are too small to become trapped. In fact they are small enough to enter the red blood cells and go anywhere in the body to fight infection, and then pass out of the body just as easily.
Some people use a home generater to manufacture their own colloidal silver. This process can not be controlled so well (hence make larger silver particles). All modern cases of argyria are linked with over use of these home generaters. Don’t get me wrong, some generaters are very good, but do your homework on particle size generated if you consider this route.
US Environmental Protection Agency Reports show that silver will pass through the body quite quickly (unless it is in large particles). The EPA also state that from a health point of view argyria is harmless, though of course nobody is going to want to end up looking like something out of the X-Men.
